Martinborough will have an extra incentive to turn on the fireworks in their Corlett Trophy regional one inter-club tennis match with Gladstone at Martinborough tomorrow.
The game will be a feature of celebrations marking 100 years of tennis at Martinborough and with two just points separating them and leaders Masterton on the points table the southerners will be going all out to pick up maximum points against the competition cellar dwellers.
The centenary celebrations at Martinborough will also include a dinner tomorrow night at which the guest speaker will be one of this country's best-performed woman players on the international circuit in Belinda Cordwell and a tournament on Sunday.
The other Corlett Trophy match will see Masterton up against Carterton at Carterton and while Masterton will be missing Steve Hurley they should still be able to record a comfortable win.
The following weekend will see the inter-provincial tournament where the Wairarapa senior reps will come up against Wellington, Kapi Mana, Hutt Valley and Manawatu.
Wairarapa selector Steve Hurley will name his team for this event early next week and it will be interesting to see just many players who are involved in club tennis outside the Wairarapa region will front up.
Falling into that category are the likes of national age group rep Marcus Daniell, Jono Hurley, Matt Spooner, Emma Stevenson and Charlotte Gibson.
