The women are underway at long last and for the opening stroke round the winner with an impressive nett 67 was Alice Forward; well done Alice. Two on nett 71 were women's club captain Mary Desbonnets and Felicity Warren. On nett 72 were Diana Donald, Laraine Nix, Sandra Peterson and Julie Kidd. I noticed Kay McIsaac did not have the best of rounds; her score will remain a secret!
On Thursday Bob Goodley once again won the comp with 45 points, followed by Clive Hartnell and Chris Cole on 44, Roger Parkinson and Ed Elworthy 43, then Stu McLeod and new member Edwin Read on 42. It would seem Goodley has struck a solid patch of form lately and his deeds are starting to get under a lot of golfers' skin!
And so to Saturday and here is a name that doesn't appear very often in the results - Clive Hartnell, with a solid 44 points - nice to see you in the winners circle Clive. On 41 points were Shayne Hammond and Garry (Banjo) Paterson. Twos were scored by Garry and Ian Stewart.
Sunday proved a good turnout and the winners on 44 points were Ian Henderson and David Donohue. Ian does a lot of work around the club so it was fitting he got some reward for his efforts. It is nice to see a fellow leftie Dave in the money too.
Runners-up on 43 points were Doug Clark, George Kirk, and KC and dare I say it, Goodley ... again. There was only one two and that was scored by Terry Fraei.
Another leftie and winemaker supremo Peter Hudson lost his father last Saturday - the club's thoughts are with you Peter.
This weekend the competition on Saturday is a South African Stableford - sounds like a lot of fun. We play Featherston in the first round of the Marquis Shield in Masterton on Sunday - should be a close encounter, so good luck.
Coming up for the women is the Aotearoa Cup in conjunction with Coronation Medal & Shoot-out.
Good golfing and good luck.
