The nine-holers were down in numbers last Wednesday as a result of the weather but a few hardy souls played. The winner of the Par competition was Leonie Wilde on +1 on a count-back from Jenny Tucker, while third was Jenny Tosswill. The All Teed Up nearest the pin winner on No 8 was Sandra Burgess. To all you women, including the ones who stayed in the club house playing whist on a not so nice day - well done.
Twenty women played a par round and the winner with a -2 was Julie Kidd. Well done Julie, it certainly wasn't the best day for playing golf.
Runner-up was Pamela Messervy, then on +2 were Bindy McLeod, Gail Freeman and Jenny Wilkie. I noticed Marilyn McKenzie played pretty well and Suzie Matthews also has got her clubs out again. Only one two was recorded by Lyle Griffiths.
And so to the Thursday Club, where 39 played and the winners with 42 points were Guy Walmsley and Darren O'Dwyer. What, Darren O'Dwyer? - fancy him putting his hand in his pocket for a game of golf - "unbelievable". Next on 40 was Rob Smith, on 39 was Lyall Callaghan, then on 38 were Ali Boyne and Mike Topp. Pity they don't have a bottom-place winner - there would be a candidate - namely Ash Reed. Poor old Ash - he is very good or very bad. Twos were scored by Doug Clarke (2), Ali Boyne, Frank Colton and, believe it or not, Darren O'Dwyer.
Good to see the rain last weekend - it has done wonders for the course. No results from Sunday, as those who played were drowned and decided it was better to get dry.
No real surprises for the first round of the Captain's Trophy. Good to see most games were played on time. Saturday results were a win to Sandra Peterson with a +5. Well done Sandra, you certainly showed it to the boys who turned up. Runner-up was Peter Bain on +2, followed by Ali Boyne, Doug Buchanan, Graham Jacobson, Ash Reed and Ali Boyne. Nearest the pin went to Ash Reed. Best gross was Lyall Callaghan. Both nearest the pin and best gross are sponsored by Bill the Builder.
The Wairarapa women played last Sunday against Wellington in the Julie Murphy Jug - well done to Sherry Weatherstone and Sally Fairbrother for their wins and also to Katie Smart for a well-earned half.
The Silver Division women played Royal Wellington at Masterton on Monday in Pennants. They were second in every match.
Please do not forget Friday, April 15 - St John Wairarapa Charity Golf Tournament.
Good golfing.
