The tree-hugging, marmite-eating cat of Lodge Road, Napier, is off to a new home.
Last week the cat entertained Marewa residents with a week of off-pitch howling from its refugee nest among the branches of a two- storey phoenix palm.
Animal control officers, SPCA officers, even firefighters had all attempted failed rescue missions on the cat before a local radio station ZM offered a $400 cash prize to whoever could get the moggie down.
Hastings painter Jamie Green came to the feline's rescue by using a ladder and the lunch in his back pocket -- a marmite sandwich -- and claimed the cash booty.
The cat stayed in the care of Lodge Road residents over the weekend after nobody came forward to claim the missing feline.
Mr Green today agreed again to be the cat's guardian angel by taking it into the care of himself and his cat-loving girlfriend.
Mr Green has named the cat Marmite.
