A red card led to red faces for two Blenheim soccer teams as a mid-game scuffle resulted in fines for both sides and a four-week suspension for the chairman of Marlborough Football.
A Central player was red-carded for tackling chairman Peter Mortimer's son during the game between Ranger City and Central at A&P Park on June 10.
Mortimer, who was serving as linesman, took issue at the offence, and a "melee" erupted that saw pushing and shoving between the two teams.
The game was called off early with Rangers leading 1-0, and Mortimer, who plays for Rangers Masters, was suspended for four weeks. Each team also received a fine.
When approached by the Herald, Mainland Football chief executive Julian Bowden said that the matter had been swiftly dealt with.
