KEY POINTS:
A marina that prides itself on providing top quality security has some explaining to do after a boat went missing from its carpark over the holidays.
A trailer and Ledacraft boat were stolen from Westhaven Marina in downtown Auckland.
Kurina Cox, 28, and partner 29-year-old Oliver Knowles returned from holiday last week to find their boat Day Trippa missing from the marina, which is owned and operated by Auckland City Council.
The white boat with burgundy trim was stolen from a parking spot close to the entrance in the marina's carpark.
Ms Cox said they had been paying $180 per month since November to keep the boat at the marina and were confident it would be safe after reading about Westhaven's security measures.
According to the website, in addition to custodians who monitor the marina 24/7, the property is also protected by "over 40 security cameras located over the carparks and piers".
It says they are "operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and may be monitored by marina staff".
But Ms Cox said Westhaven's operations team leader Nick Oliver told her that the cameras were not working when the Day Trippa was stolen.
Russell Mathieson, manager of Westhaven, refused to comment on the missing boat.
Auckland City Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said
finding a missing boat was not easy, especially if it was not being used on the water.
"It would be very simple to park a boat ... on a private property and it could be repainted very quickly."
