Convicted killer Joseph Martin Reekers appeared in court today to argue for a reduction in the non-parole period he received for murdering Auckland hairdresser Marie Jamieson.
Reekers was last year sentenced to life in prison with a minimum non-parole period of 15 years for killing Ms Jamieson in 2001.
In the Court of Appeal in Auckland today, Reekers' lawyer, Howard Lawry, argued that the sentencing judge had given too much weight to a 1978 conviction for raping another woman, given the length of time that had passed since then.
The judges reserved their decision.
