KEY POINTS:
Police will today continue canvassing people who visited the Waimakariri River north of Christchurch in the hunt for the killer of schoolgirl Marie Davis.
Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas said today there were still about 50 or 60 people police wanted to talk to.
The 15-year-old's body was found in the river on Thursday - nearly two weeks after she disappeared from her suburban Papanui home on April 5.
Ms Le Bas said police and members of the Kaiapoi Community Watch Group questioned around 200 people in the area yesterday to help build a better picture of what occurred on the night Marie went missing.
She said she was particularly interested in speaking to people who used the motorcycle area on the north bank of the river.
Asked about suspects, she said: "There are people who are more interesting than others to us."
Marie's family said they were determined to catch the "scum" who killed her.
Marie's cousin, Nick Donald, said the killer needed to be brought in, "he's just scum. He needs to be stopped".
Mr Donald had been at the river yesterday helping police, handing out posters and appealing to jet-boat users to think back to the night Marie disappeared.
He said there were a lot of regulars that went to the river.
"Someone has some sort of information - it might be trivial, but it might be a piece of the jigsaw puzzle police are missing," he told The Press.
