Also in the race is Wairarapa-owned gelding Albus and his connections will be hoping the rain does not eventuate.
Although trained out of the district - by Peter Hurdle at Awapuni - Albus is owned by Carterton dairy farmers Alistair and Diane Smith and has been a pretty handy campaigner for them.
But he needs to be on top of the ground, having finished in the money 10 times out of 18 attempts on good going, so if rain does come it will be interesting to see whether he lines up at all.
Stacey Dougan has three of her team entered in races earlier in the day.
Del Potro only battled at Wanganui and is yet to break through for a win but has shown enough in his seven starts to date to keep punters interested.
He lines up in the special conditions premier - his biggest test to date - and could get some of the money.
Dougan's other runners are Mask the Shadow and Spot the Dot, both chasing the cash in race 4, over 1400m.
Spot the Dot rarely runs a bad one and her effort at Trentham on December 3 was good, finishing fifth of 18.
Mask the Shadow won a trial at Otaki last month before lining up on that course a week later and finishing in the body of the field.
Ian Wyeth has Malaya entered in the same race and I was impressed with her last start effort at Trentham.
Promising young rider Harry Kasim was aboard that day and gave the Towkay mare every chance winding up fourth, just over two lengths from the winner.
Tomorrow in-form northern rider Danielle Johnson has the mount and Malaya will certainly lose nothing as a result of the jockey change.
The only other Wairarapa runner is Jezaray in the fifth event.
Young James Webster trains the mare at Tauherenikau and will be looking for her to improve on her Trentham effort where she never emerged from the ruck.
