Manukau Mayor Len Brown is critically ill again following a setback in his recovery from a heart attack.
Mr Brown is now back in Auckland Hospital's intensive care unit after a setback in his recovery.
He required heart surgery on June 3 after he collapsed on stage with a heart attack at the Pacific Music Awards on May 31.
Mr Brown had been regarded as improving following the surgery and Acting Mayor Gary Troup said his turn for the worse was a concern.
"Len has undergone further surgery and is being closely monitored in intensive care," Mr Troup said.
"I have been in contact with his family and have offered the council's full support."
