Manukau's mayor is surprised the Government has taken so long to reveal who will be overseeing Auckland's restructuring but believes some good choices have been made.
After days of speculation it has been revealed that Mark Ford, Watercare Services CEO, will be executive chairman of the Auckland Transition Agency.
His colleagues are Miriam Dean, John Waller, John Law and Wayne Walden.
The body will oversee the process of dissolving the current seven councils into one super city in time for the local body elections next year.
Manukau mayor Len Brown is critical of the time it has taken to name the board, saying it is important to get on with the job, but he is confident the team is up to the task.
"It's certainly taken a while to get through to this. It's hugely important in terms of now moving on these proposals and working with council organisations."
Mr Brown believes Mr Walden in particular will offer a lot to the agency.
He says Mr Law is also an important addition as he is a former mayor and it is essential to have someone in the mix with local government experience.
Cabinet's announcement of the board was delayed on Monday as the Government dealt with fallout from the appointment of Christine Rankin to the Families Commission.
