The Manukau City Council will continue to ask Parliament for greater powers to combat graffiti, regardless of Justice Minister Phil Goff's promise to help councils and police.
Mr Goff said on Tuesday that a local bill for graffiti control being promoted by the council was only a good start and he would take the most effective aspects of it a step further, along with other measures.
Manukau Mayor Sir Barry Curtis said yesterday that the council wanted to continue with its effort to fight graffiti through the local bill, which would be presented to Parliament next week by Manurewa MP George Hawkins.
