Gisborne police have charged a 24-year-old Te Puke man with two counts of manslaughter, after a road crash that killed two people in August.
A 14-year-old girl and a 23-year-old man died in the smash which happened on State Highway 2 just north of Makaraka, near Gisborne.
Two other people were injured when the car left the road and hit a concrete wall.
The accused is also charged with two counts of excess blood alcohol causing injury. He has made an initial court appearance and has been bailed to reappear in the Gisborne District Court on January 20.
