Police have charged a teenager with manslaughter after the death of a 19-year-old involved in a scuffle outside a Whangarei nightclub just over a week ago.
Anaru Haki Tamihana, of Whangarei, died after being struck in the early hours of July 16. Police believe he banged his head on the ground.
They originally charged Whare Junior Pitman, also aged 19, with assault but have now laid the additional charge of manslaughter.
Pitman appeared in Whangarei District Court yesterday and was remanded in custody without plea to reappear on August 7.
