The home of a 49-year-old Meremere man is under guard while Waikato police investigate his death.
Waikato CIB acting detective inspector Mark Greene said police were currently treating the man's death as unexplained but hoped to have further information later today following its investigation.
Mr Greene confirmed St John attended to the man just before 6am and had referred the incident to police because they had some concerns around the circumstances of the man's death.
St John Ambulance communication centre confirmed it had attended the call but declined to comment further as the matter had been referred to police.
Police are urging anyone with any information about the incident to contact Huntly Police on 07 828 7560.
