Rotorua police are seeking witnesses who may know how a man received serious head injuries on the weekend.
The man was found lying unconscious on Hazlett Street, in suburban Glenholme, around 11.50am Sunday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper said the man had been drinking.
It was believed he had been
in a fight but as the man could not remember what happened, police could not be certain, he told the Daily Post.
"We've spoken to some residents but believe others may have seen what occurred. We want to speak to anybody with any information.
"We're not sure how the man got his head injury but it may have been from a fall."
The man remained in a serious condition at Waikato Hospital today.
