A Morrinsville man had a hand severed in a head-on crash in Waikato this morning.
The Hamilton-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was sent to Ngarua, south of Morrinsville, about 9.30am after the 52-year-old man's right hand was severed in the crash between a car and a truck.
The vehicles were travelling in opposite directions along Kereone Road when the head-on collision occurred, pilot Loren Haisley said.
"[ The hand] was still attached, but very, very badly - basically it was pointed in the other direction.
An on-board St John Ambulance intensive care paramedic bandaged the severed hand in place and the man was flown to Waikato Hospital.
