Man's driving prompts 'flood of calls', arrest

A 52-year-old man has been arrested after police received "a flood of calls" about his dangerous driving.

The man was driving a white Holden Commodore that was reportedly driving at high speed between Christchurch and the West Coast on State Highway 73, and on State Highway 6 through Greymouth yesterday.

Police said other drivers reported having to take evasive action to avoid a collision with the car.

The car ran out of petrol near Dobson and the man was arrested.

He is currently in the care of mental health services, police said.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this driving, including those who have already reported incidents.
