The body of a fully-clothed man was pulled from a hot pool in central Rotorua early this morning.
Sergeant Tony Bennett said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the 61 year-old and the matter has been referred to the coroner.
Early reports said the man was fully clothed.
St John Ambulance spokesman Charlie Bougher said they received a call to an address near the lakefront at 6.47am.
The man was found to be dead when paramedics arrived.
"The people who phoned in thought that the person may well have been in the water for a considerable time," he said.
