Timothy Bourke whose body was found in a car abandoned by his brother in southern Hawke's Bay earlier this week was being farewelled in Wanganui today.
David Bourke, 46, from Wanganui, was arrested on Tuesday after spending 48 hours on the run near Norsewood in Southern Hawke's Bay, during which time a farm worker was shot.
Police also found the body of his brother Timothy Barry Bourke, 49, in his abandoned car.
Police said his death was due to gunshot wounds.
David Bourke appeared in Palmerston North District Court on Wednesday accused of failing to stop, using a firearm against policeman Warwick Davis, and assaulting Craig Yorston with a knife.
He was remanded in custody for a psychiatric assessment to reappear on October 21 when further charges are expected to be laid.
Police yesterday renewed an appeal for sightings of David Bourke's car a green Honda Rafaga saloon, registration XP9885, between 8am and 12pm Sunday.
In particular officers wanted to hear about sightings near Gordons Bush off Kaimatira Rd, on the eastern outskirts of Wanganui.
Police would be working in the area on Sunday and would welcome the help of locals with information, Detective Senior Sergeant Gwynne Pennell of Wanganui police.
Meanwhile a funeral service was being held in Wanganui today for Timothy Bourke with his family requesting privacy.
