A violent incident involving the stabbing of a woman and the disappearance of a little boy sparked a police manhunt in Thames tonight.
Police were alerted to the emergency at a house on Ngati Maru Highway about 4pm and arrived to find a woman had been stabbed and a 2-year-old boy was missing.
A few hours later, at about 9:15pm, the toddler was found, together with Arana Barlow, 36, in the Auckland suburb of Kelston.
Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethley said Barlow, who was related to the toddler, was assisting police with enquiries.
The woman was initially reported by police as being critically injured and she was flown to Waikato Hospital with stab wounds. Her condition later improved and she is now in a serious but stable condition.
