Manhunt for speeding driver

A search was under way in Mt Eden late last night for a driver who refused to stop after being caught speeding.

A squad car pursued the man for about 20 seconds before he ditched his vehicle in Pentland Ave just before 11pm, police inspector Matt Rogers said.

A witness said at least eight squad cars and two police dog vans arrived at the scene and some waited in driveways with their lights off in the hope the fugitive would run past.
