A violent offender who threatened to kill a child for each of the 10 years he was jailed for has been accused of breaching parole by texting the mother of his children.
The man, who lives in Porirua, was freed in late April, ending his 10-year sentence for kidnapping, indecently assaulting a woman, aggravated robbery and arson.
He had written to a judge threatening to kill a child for every year he was in prison.
The man, considered a high risk of reoffending, was released after the Parole Board exhausted all legal avenues to keep him behind bars, The Dominion Post newspaper reported.
He was charged last week with breaching one of his special conditions, after allegedly sending a text message to the mother of his children.
He had been ordered to not associate with her or the children without prior written consent from his probation officer.
He has pleaded not guilty to the breach and will defend it in court next month. He will remain free until then.
The newspaper agreed not to name the man , as police and Corrections feared that would provoke a dangerous reaction.
