KEY POINTS:
A Fox Glacier man who robbed tourists of goods and cash to the tune of $104,000 has been jailed for three years and two months.
Gregory Charles Young, 25, pleaded guilty in Greymouth District Court on Monday to 42 charges, mostly thefts from tourists' vehicles.
Young was on parole from a previous prison sentence and working as a cleaner at Fox Glacier when the offences were committed last year.
Most of the crimes were committed at the Copland Track car park but other offences were committed at Makarora, Haast, Franz Josef Glacier, Fox Glacier, Lake Moeraki, Karangarua, Wanaka and Whataroa.
Young was arrested after police pulled over his car and found a trailer laden with stolen goods.
Items taken ranged from computer equipment valued at $25,700 to clothing valued at $10.
Judge Brian Callaghan said there would be little sense in ordering reparation.
He instead ordered that all property that could not be reunited with its owner be sold and the proceeds split among the various victims.
