A Timaru man who murdered his wife has been declined parole.
Robin Nigel Churchill was convicted in 1994 of the murder of his wife Sharon and sentenced to life imprisonment, the Timaru Herald reported today.
A report to the parole board described the former businessman as manipulative, deceitful and continuing to operate in whatever way suited him.
The board expressed serious concerns about his ability to remain out of trouble.
The board noted that the victim's family doubted there had been any change, or whether Churchill was capable of change. They worried about the danger he might pose to other people and about their own safety if he were to be released.
A recent report compiled about Churchill and his time in prison indicated he had been involved in 17 documented incidents during his term of imprisonment, with two of the incidents taking place this year.
The report said Churchill was capable of both violence and anger.
Despite Churchill saying he was ready for release, the board said it could not consider releasing a prisoner with his history while there was an uncertain outcome for a serious charge.
