Man who died after Palmerston North fight was stabbed

A man who died in hospital following an altercation between two men in Palmerston North was stabbed, police say.

Tui John Anderson, 28, of Palmerston North, suffered a fatal stab wound to the abdomen in the bust-up about 10pm on Easter Monday.

He died in Palmerston North Hospital yesterday morning.

Releasing his name today, police said they were "not prepared to comment any further on the circumstances of his death or the weapon used".

A 26-year-old man has been charged with murder.

He was granted interim name suppression at an appearance in Palmerston North District Court yesterday, and was remanded in custody. He is due before the High Court in May.

A scene examination at the central city residence where the fight took place was expected to be completed by late this afternoon, police said.
