Man who died after alleged assault named

A man who died in east Auckland yesterday after an alleged assault can now be named.

Jiacui Xiao, 45, was critically injured when police arrived at an address on Willoughby Ave, Howick, about 5pm yesterday and died while being taken to hospital.

It was believed he had been stabbed.

Xiaoyan Hu, 31, was arrested following the death and appeared in Manukau District Court today charged with assault.

She was remanded in custody to reappear in court on December 16.

Police are considering laying more serious charges.
