A man who collapsed and died after being handcuffed this week has been named.
He was 55-year-old Riko Ahomiro, from Te Puke in the western Bay of Plenty.
Police were carrying out a search warrant at a Te Puke property on Wednesday morning when Mr Ahomiro collapsed after being handcuffed and later died.
Earlier this week, a police spokeswoman said a firearm was seen at the property so the man at the property was put in handcuffs for the safety of police officers carrying out the search.
"Although the man appeared verbally agitated, there was no physical struggle," the spokeswoman said.
