KEY POINTS:
The man charged with breaking into the home of a Hawke's Bay Today reporter and biting off part of his ear has been remanded in the interim as a special mental health patient after he was found unfit to stand trial or plead.
"Beyond that, the details are suppressed until such time as Mr Teki is in a position to enter a plea or the case is otherwise dealt with in accordance with the act," a High Court suppression order said.
Justice Simon France's ruling was made in the High Court at Napier where 28-year-old Leua Antonio Teki was to have faced trial.
He had been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and aggravated burglary relating to the attack at the home of reporter Doug Laing in Wordsworth Crescent, Maraenui, about 12.30am on March 16 last year.
Teki had also been charged with assaulting and resisting police during his arrest at a house across the road about 15 hours after the attack.
