A man who allegedly posed as a nurse and Maori social worker in Christchurch hospitals and helped himself to health board vehicles appeared today in court after giving himself up in Wanganui yesterday.
Turori Wheturangi Chapman, 26, of Matahina, near Whakatane, was charged in Wanganui District Court with taking for his own use a Hyundai Getz, valued at $18990 and a Hyundai Tucson, valued at $26,000, both the property of Canterbury District Health Board.
He was also charged with entering a garage with intent to commit a crime at Whakatane Hospital in late September.
Chapman, who entered no plea, was remanded in custody until October 31.
Judge John Clapham also made an order that Chapman's face not be shown in any of the photographs taken in court because the issue of identity could be central to later proceedings.
