Police today named the young man who died when a car driven by his twin brother crossed the road, and crashed into a tree before plunging down a bank north of Wellington early yesterday.
He was 19-year-old Vaughn Arthur Nuttall, an apprentice butcher, from Lower Hutt.
Detective Constable Glen Cooper said today Mr Nuttall's twin brother was treated at Hutt Hospital for minor injuries and discharged.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Saunders said earlier that the car failed to take a sweeping bend on State Highway 58 on the Pauatahanui side of Haywards Hill about 3am yesterday.
Investigators were still working on the cause of the accident but as the Toyota Carolla was extensively damaged, "it would indicate speed was a factor", he said.
