Police hunting a North Canterbury man whose former partner was found dead on Monday say he may have taken to the bush.
A homicide investigation was launched after police discovered Jo-Anne Thompson, 46, dead in the bathroom of her Waiau home, near Hanmer, on Monday morning.
Neighbours called the police after her two children, aged four and six, were found wandering outside the address.
Ms Thompson's 43-year-old former partner Ross Simon Fraser was being sought in connection with her death.
Despite appeals to the public for information on Mr Fraser's whereabouts, police had no reported sightings, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Long told NZPA.
"He's known to be able to go bush for awhile and survive on not much," Mr Long said.
Police have said Mr Fraser was considered dangerous and should not be approached.
They wanted to hear from anyone who had seen him or may have lent him a vehicle in recent days.
Mr Fraser was described as European, 1.7m tall, slim and with shoulder length scruffy hair.
