A man walked away unscathed after a train hit his truck in the South Island this morning.
The truck driver reportedly failed to stop at a railway crossing at 7.22am on Stafford Rd, just north of Hokitika.
Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene, but the man was not injured. He was transported to hospital for a check up but Constable Stephen Coutts said it was just a precautionary measure.
He said the investigation into the collision was ongoing and it was too early to say whether the truck driver would face charges. The driver of the train was uninjured.
Mr Coutts said it appeared the truck driver had tried to beat the train, but was hit in doing so. "Stop means stop," he said.
