A man has been seriously injured after the car he was working on was struck by another car in the Northland settlement of Hikurangi this afternoon.
A police spokesperson said the man had been taken to Northland Base Hospital, in Whangarei, with serious injuries after the 1.20pm incident in George St.
He was underneath his vehicle when another car collided with it.
The street had been closed and the serious crash unit was investigating, the spokesperson said.
Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said three crews from the Hikurangi Volunteer Fire Brigade were at the scene, which is about 15 kilometres north of Whangarei.
