"He hasn't had food for three days so he was quite exhausted and he had a number of bumps and scrapes.
"[It's] definitely time to put his feet up for a while and recover," Mr Bohm said.
Wairarapa police and Land Search and Rescue (LandSAR) had used more than 50 volunteers and two helicopters, including an Air Force Iroquois, to search for Mr Lindsay.
Inspector Simon Perry said police and LandSAR volunteers were pleased he had been located.
"We would encourage people that are going into the outdoors to utilise personal locator beacons so that search teams can find them.
"If they become disoriented but find their way to a hut, they should remain there until help arrives," Mr Perry said.
