Police are seeking help to identify a man who tried to rob a Te Kuiti petrol station wearing a Halloween mask last night.
Detective Sergeant Steve Hudson of the Te Awamutu CIB said a man entered the Z Energy service station on Te Kuiti's Te Kumi Rd armed with a boning knife about 6.45pm.
"Described as a barefoot male Maori or Polynesian, the offender was wearing grey shorts, a long white jacket and had a green Halloween mask on.
"Unable to gain access to the area behind the counter, the offender has climbed up on to the counter through security wires into the service area where he has demanded money from the store assistant."
Mr Hudson said a second Z employee then came out, which prompted the offender to flee back towards the centre of town on foot.
