A man has suffered severe injuries after being trapped under machinery in a forest for about seven hours.
Ambulance communications team manager Keith Hall told APNZ the man was found in a Taupo forest about 9am but it was believed he had been trapped since 3am. He was working alone when the accident happened.
He was airlifted to Waikato hospital, where he was this afternoon undergoing surgery.
