A West Coast man held his estranged partner hostage for about four hours telling her he was going to become famous for cutting her throat, a court has been told.
Greymouth District Court was told yesterday the woman sat motionless at the table, too scared to even look at Siu Brown while he sat on an armchair, armed with knives and repeatedly threatening to kill her.
Brown, 41, of Cobden, was remanded in custody for sentencing on October 16.
He had admitted two breaches of a protection order, and other charges of threatening to kill and assault. Police prosecutor Al Manco said the protection order was invoked on September 8, 1998.
Exactly nine years later Brown entered the woman's home at 8pm. They argued until he sat her at the table and ordered her not move. He then went to the kitchen to get the knives, and returned saying: "I'm going to get famous for killing you. I will cut your throat" as he stabbed two of the knives into the table top in front of her.
A daughter who observed the abuse was also made to sit at the table during the three to four hours that Brown was in control.
Eventually, when the woman rose to leave, Brown rushed at her knocking her to the ground with such force she suffered a suspected broken tail bone.
Brown's criminal record includes 19 prison sentences and 56 convictions for offences committed while on bail.
