The 35-year-old North Shore man, who has interim name suppression, appeared in Auckland District Court today charged with dangerous driving and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
The charges arose after Gwen Roberts, 58, was struck by a white Mercedes on Queen Street.
It was reported the car was being driven erratically before it left the road, hitting and critically injuring Ms Roberts, a homeless person, as she walked along the street outside the Methodist Mission.
