A Napier man has sustained a nasty head wound during a violent home invasion early today.
At about 3am this morning, the 58-year-old male victim was awoken by three men at his door. The callers kicked their way inside and demanded money. When the victim was unable to provide any, he was tied up with his own clothing and his property was ransacked. Items were taken, including the victim's black wallet containing his identification, cheque and deposit books and men's jewellery.
During the incident, the victim was hit around the head with a blunt object, sustaining a nasty head wound. He was also kicked in the head. The victim is now recovering after his ordeal.
The victim lives in the commercial area of Niven Street in the Napier suburb of Onekawa.
Police said it's likely the offenders travelled to his property in a vehicle and police are seeking sightings of any cars entering and exiting Niven between approximately 2.45am and 3.45am. Any premises accessible to Niven Street with CCTV covering the street are also asked to contact police.
