A man has suffered head injuries after being thrown from his vehicle in an early morning police chase in Queenstown.
Police say the 25-year-old from Queenstown was seen driving his Subaru "in an evasive manner" between Athol St and Shotover St at 4am today.
Sergeant Tracy Haggart told the Otago Daily Times when officers got out of the car to stop the driver he fled the scene, leaving at speed and travelling in the direction of Arthurs Point on Gorge Rd.
While police were in pursuit, the man drove down a bank on Gorge Rd, his car overturned and rolled 20 metres, Sgt Haggart said.
The man was taken to Lakes District Hospital where blood alcohol testing was carried out.
His condition was not known.
