KEY POINTS:
A man was tasered last night after allegedly kidnapping his partner and holding a kitchen knife to her neck, threatening to kill her if he saw police.
A 25-year-old is to appear in Waitakere District Court tomorrow facing charges including kidnapping and assault.
Inspector Gary Hill said the woman was left with small cuts to her neck after the half-hour ordeal, which began at a house in Kaweka St, New Lynn, at about 8pm. A baby in the house at the time was not hurt, Hill said.
After "continually making threats he would kill [his partner]" the man allegedly forced the woman into a white Diahatsu and drove down Titirangi Rd.
Hill said the man was stopped by police road spikes.
It is understood police broke the car window and tasered the man before pulling him from the vehicle and arresting him.
The man lay slumped, seemingly unconscious, against the ambulance before police took him away.
Hill said police acted "quickly and effectively by deploying the taser".
