A man who was tasered by police following a violent dispute in West Auckland last night will appear in the Waitakere District Court this morning on a raft of charges.
Ongoing tensions between some residents on Mili Way in Ranui exploded at about 9.30pm and during a physical altercation one man allegedly attacked another with a knife.
Someone managed to get the knife off the alleged offender, who then went and retrieved an air rifle which he started to point at people.
The situation then escalated rapidly with a variety of weapons being used by people in the street. Reports last night that a machete had been brandished by one person are incorrect.
After police arrived at the scene they challenged the alleged gunman and when he did not comply with their requests they used a taser to disarm him.
