Police are attending an incident in Roxburgh, central Otago.
The incident is believed to be firearms related, but police would not give any details.
Armed police stopped a vehicle with a number of firearms inside it between Clyde and Cromwell this afternoon.
A man has been taken into custody.
"The situation is evolving but police believe they have located the person of interest and there is no further risk to public safety at this time."
