Emergency services worked for several hours last night to rescue an 18-year-old man, who was seriously injured when he fell 80 metres down a bank near Feilding.
A spokesman for the Square Trust Rescue Helicopter said emergency services were called to the scene at Makoura Lodge near Apiti after the incident, which occurred just before midnight.
The teen had climbed over a fence in the dark and his friends saw him disappear and then heard him "bouncing" down the 80-metre drop.
Fire Brigades from Apiti and Fielding attended, along with St John paramedics and police.
Itook several hours to access and extricate the victim.
The helicopter was then used to fly him to the Palmerston North Hospital with serious head, and chest injuries.
His condition was not immediately known.
