A man aged in his 50s has survived a 150m fall in the Whanganui River valley after a hunting mishap.
The Palmerston North-based Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Matahiwi this morning.
The accident was witnessed by several other hunters in the area, who helped the man into a nearby woolshed until the helicopter arrived.
The man was then airlifted to Whanganui Hospital and is in a stable condition.
