A 55-year-old man is in a serious condition after suffering facial injuries from a chainsaw in Onga Onga, a rural area in Hawkes Bay.
The man was driven to Waipukurau Medical Centre by a friend, and then flown by rescue helicopter to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital.
A hospital spokeswoman said the man was in a serious condition.
