KEY POINTS:
A man opened 10 large packets of Weetbix in a supermarket and stole the All Blacks cards inside.
Lindsay Matua Winiata went to the Pak n Save supermarket in Wainoni, Christchurch, on August 31.
He opened 10 large packets of Weetbix - a sponsor of the men in black - and swiped the All Black Stat Attack trading cards inside.
He hid the cards in his clothing and then tried to leave the store with the pile of opened Weetbix boxes unpaid for.
The store caught him and he told the police he took the cards for his brother-in-law who was collecting them.
Winiata pleaded guilty to the theft charge in Christchurch District Court today.
Judge Jane Farish was told he had a long list of previous convictions but was making good progress with his prison release conditions.
"I think this was an aberration," she said, convicting and discharging him but making him pay $40.50 for the Weetbix boxes he opened.
The court did not discuss whether he will get to eat the pile of Weetbix he has to pay for.
