An Indian man is still critically ill with life threatening injuries nearly a week after being repeatedly punched and kicked by two other men in Auckland.
The man was severely beaten outside Avondale Physiotherapy in Rosebank Road, Avondale, shortly before 9.30pm on Wednesday, Detective Sergeant Rick Veacock said.
Witnesses saw two men punch and kick a man lying on the pavement, he said.
One witness tried to distract the men but was threatened and unable to intervene.
Mr Veacock said an Ethiopian man had been arrested but the other attacker had not been found.
He described the man as a solidly built Polynesian in his late teens, with short black hair.
The victim remained in hospital with serious head injuries.
"This was a sustained and vicious attack on a young local resident by two males who showed a clear disregard for the consequences of their actions," Mr Veacock said.
Anyone with information after the attack should contact police immediately, he said.
