A Wairoa man has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after he was found early this morning with stab wounds.
Shortly before 1am police received a call about a man at a Shell service station in Wairoa, about 90km southwest of Gisborne, damaging the building with a metal pole, Sergeant Peter Theobald told APNZ.
When police arrived they found a 22-year-old man with stab wounds.
He was taken to Hastings Hospital in a serious condition.
Police were now trying to locate the offender.
